In this role, she will be responsible for maximizing the financial and operating performance of the organization. Hurley will lead the annual budget process and implement financial policies and systems to facilitate and support the growing needs of POLITICO’s business.

Hurley brings two decades of financial leadership experience at news organizations, including The Washington Post, POLITICO and CNN. She is seasoned in distilling complex data to define financial strategies that drive significant and sustainable growth for digital media businesses. In previous roles, Hurley has established herself as a trusted financial partner to colleagues across teams and departments, with credibility as an innovative and effective business problem solver.

“POLITICO is in growth mode, and the infrastructure and leadership of our financial operation must evolve to support our journalistic ambition and business goals,” said Mark Dekan, COO of POLITICO Media Group. “Establishing strong financial systems and processes that drive business performance allow us to better serve our audience and professional subscribers. Jen has a wealth of proven expertise and passion for finance in journalism and media, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to our growing leadership team."

“I am honored to have the opportunity to return to work for POLITICO, especially in this new phase of growth,” said Jen Hurley. “POLITICO has a special meaning to me — it was during its startup phase where I learned true grit and determination. The teamwork, comradery and dedication to the journalistic mission is what ultimately drove the company to be a uniquely successful 21st Century media enterprise. The essence of what made POLITICO thrive then still exists today and I'm excited to help take the publication to even greater heights in the future.”

Hurley comes to POLITICO from The Washington Post where she served as the organization’s director of finance, working across all parts of the organization to upgrade the financial function. Hurley led a team of 15+ financial planners and analysts, created and managed the cross-functional Corporate Strategy Team, built long-range forecasts and models for ROI analysis, and developed financial models for recurring revenue streams. Prior to The Washington Post, she was the first finance employee at POLITICO, where she helped build the financial and operating infrastructure for the business in its early days.

Hurley holds a B.S. in Finance from Pennsylvania State University. She resides in Arlington with her husband Peter and three children Avery, Elise and Ashton. Her first day at POLITICO will be on May 16.
